SkillBench: Pioneering the Future of Work with AI
SkillBench is building a privacy-first telemetry and insight platform for AI-native software development. Our platform measures turn-by-turn developer workflow signals and human–AI attribution to deliver anonymized, auditable insights and practical recommendations.
AI coding assistants are rapidly changing how software gets built. Tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot aren’t just speeding up coding—they’re reshaping how engineers plan, implement, verify, and learn. Adoption is accelerating, leadership is demanding ROI, and teams are making big bets under uncertainty. But AI doesn’t just increase output: it changes developer workflows and the skills being reinforced over time. Today, most teams can’t confidently tell whether AI adoption is compounding advantage—or creating risk that only becomes visible months later.
SkillBench makes this measurable, actionable, and auditable—without surveillance. We’re also building a predictive layer that turns telemetry into org design implications: where capability is compounding vs. eroding, what interventions to run, and how to steer AI adoption responsibly over time.
We’re a research-driven team of ~10 engineers and researchers across Korea, Taiwan, and California, with strategic business and research collaborations with top global firms. We’re targeting product v1 in Q1 2026.

Title
Staff Backend Engineer — Production Platform (Tech Lead)
(Early / Core Engineering Team)
Role overview — why this matters
We’re seeking a Staff Backend Engineer — Production Platform (Tech Lead) to lead productionization for our upcoming launches and key product iterations, and own SkillBench’s technical and architectural direction as we scale.
This is a high-leverage role combining hands-on engineering (productionizing analytics/telemetry and services) with long-term architecture ownership. You will set standards, lead complex architectural decisions, guide security and compliance strategy, and mentor the engineering team.
We strongly prefer candidates who are excited about building developer tools and AI-enabled engineering workflows—especially involving modern coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot.
What you’ll own — short & long term
Short-term (upcoming launches)
- Produce the production architecture and spec (DFDs, data & API contracts)
- Productionize backend analytics pipelines and assessment/snapshot flows
- Review, validate, and accept vendor IaC
- Implement CI/CD and staging deployments
- Establish observability, SLOs, dashboards, alerting, and runbooks
Long-term (technical leadership)
- Define and evolve the platform architecture
- Set engineering standards (ADRs, testing strategy, GitOps)
- Ensure architecture and engineering practices align with internal security and compliance requirements
- Plan for scalable, multi-tenant services and inference patterns
- Mentor engineers across the org and run architecture reviews
- Lead cross-functional technical decisions and coordinate with Product, Metrics/ML, and external vendors to ensure high-quality handovers
Key responsibilities
- Translate PRDs & research into production-ready architectures and acceptance criteria
- Implement robust batch and/or streaming systems for computing per-task metrics (idempotency, retries, orchestration)
- Review and accept vendor IaC, ensure staging/CI parity and production readiness
- Establish observability, SLOs, dashboards & alerting; author incident runbooks
- Support security and compliance initiatives by validating technical controls, including pen-test remediation
- Mentor and up-skill mid-level engineers; run architecture reviews and enforce ADRs
- Drive long-term technical roadmap and platform decisions
Must-have qualifications
- 7+ years production backend engineering experience (distributed systems, batch and/or streaming)
- Proven track record of productionizing analytics, telemetry, or ML pipelines into reliable services
- Hands-on IaC & CI/CD skills (Terraform/Helm/GitOps or equivalent)
- Strong observability & SLO experience (Prometheus/Grafana/Tempo or equivalents)
- Experience coordinating security/compliance work or managing pen-test remediation
- Demonstrated leadership in architectural decision-making and mentoring
- Experience in B2B SaaS + AI product development (product + enterprise context)
- Able to overlap Korea/Taiwan working hours; occasional West Coast overlap helpful
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with sensitive enterprise data (finance, healthcare, regulated domains)
- MLOps / Spark / Databricks / GPU inference experience
- Familiarity with telemetry stacks (Loki/Elastic/S3) or time-series systems
- Prior enterprise / regulated market experience
- Experience building developer tools, or designing AI-enabled workflows for engineers (especially involving Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot)
What we offer
- A critical technical leadership role with substantial equity and high ownership
- Competitive compensation (base + equity)
- Full-time role by default (contract-to-perm also possible)
- Fully remote culture; engineering team spans Korea, Taiwan, and the U.S. West Coast — we coordinate globally and hold periodic offsites
- A research-grounded product with strong traction and an ambitious v1 timeline (Q1 2026)
